Outdoor Conservation Tips

  • Plant low-water-use vegetation that is natural to your environment.
  • Use a layer of mulch (such as rock, bark, gravel, wood chips, or compost) around trees and plants to cut down on evaporation and control weeds.
  • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean sidewalks, driveways, and patios.
  • If you have a pool or spa, use a cover to reduce evaporation.
  • Cut down your watering schedule on cool and overcast days, and don't water when it rains.
  • Set lawn mower blades one notch higher to reduce evaporation.
  • Install a drip irrigation system and maintain it properly.
  • If you have an evaporative cooler, direct the water drain line to a tree, flower bed, or lawn.
